LGB and Trans*

I have been working in the LGBT community for a couple weeks now and I have made some observations. First off, Transgender people are very active in working for the LGBT community, at least where I am located, which I think is awesome because (second observation) they are not put first often. I have observed the ignorance of people that stand for LGBT community. Education on trans* persons is scarce even in the community. I have also come to the conclusion that Trans* people should not be considered apart of the LGBT community because Trans* people are unrelated to LGB because they are not related to sexual orientation. I think a lot of people think that it is sexual and not gender related because of it’s relation to Lesbian,  Bisexual, and Gay. I think it is also overlooked because of this, most people think LGBT and think GAYYYYY, not what each individual letter stands for. My opinion is that Trans* people should make a name for themselves and stand by themselves instead of incorporating COMPLETELY with LGBT.

Educating the ignorant is definately my goal for these internships because there is nothing more important. I hope for a day that I can marry my boyfriend without it being considered a “gay marriage.” So, what am I going to do? Send intricate letters to governers, president, mayors, etc. I am requesting that all of my followers send some thoughts about what I should say. I am going to send letters hand written by mail to these people. They will include stats, information about transitioning, etc. Please help me, I am hoping I can get one response, I am hoping to break some ignorance in this world.

xoxo Anne
